Ingredients

  • 125g unsalted butter
  • 300g plain flour
  • 100g white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 34 large Granny Smith apples
  • Rolled oats
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180C (350F).
  2. Grease a 20cm/8" square baking pan and line it with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until smooth.
  4. Stir in the egg and press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes or until slightly golden; let cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Mix diced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spread over baked base.
  7. Crumble remaining dough on top and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until golden.
  8. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
