Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (browned)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup unsulfured molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until browned and aromatic. Let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, mix brown sugar with the browned butter until smooth. Add egg, molasses, and vanilla; stir to combine.
- Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized dough portions onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft. Cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
- Whisk powdered sugar with maple syrup until smooth for glazing cookies once cooled.
