- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and thinly slice Yukon Gold potatoes.
- Rinse potato slices under cold water and pat dry.
- In a saucepan, melt butter and whisk in flour to form a roux. Gradually add milk and cream until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar and Gruyère until melted; season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Layer sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish, alternating with cheese sauce until all ingredients are used.
- Top with breadcrumbs and cover with foil. Bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
