Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups butter
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar

- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth; beat in eggs and vanilla extract.
- Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt; cover dough and chill for at least one hour.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out chilled dough to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick; cut out shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Bake cookies on ungreased sheets for 6-8 minutes until lightly golden; cool completely.
- For icing, whisk together milk and powdered sugar until smooth, then separate into three parts—color one part red and another blue.
- Decorate cookies with white icing, followed by red and blue circles; drag a toothpick from the center to create fireworks.
