Ingredients
- 1 pound ground sausage
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over top and let sit until bubbly (5-10 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center; add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Combine until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled.
- Cook sausage in a skillet until browned; drain excess fat and cool.
- Punch down risen dough and divide into 12 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball; fill with sausage and cheese before sealing.
- Shape each bun into flowers by pinching at the top for petals; place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let buns rise again for about 30 minutes; preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush tops with egg wash; sprinkle seeds if desired. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
