- 10 ounces pasta (your choice)
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth)
- 1 cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
- ¼ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
Instructions
- Cook the pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and salt; cook for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and caramelized. Stir in sugar after 10 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Pour in both broths and season with thyme and black pepper; let simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Toss cooked pasta into the skillet with the onion mixture until well combined.
- Sprinkle shredded Gruyère cheese on top, cover, and let it melt for about 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
