- 4 large egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup crushed peppermint candies (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until foamy. Add cream of tartar and salt; continue beating until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the sugar one tablespoon at a time, increasing mixer speed to high until stiff peaks form (about 5-7 minutes).
- Gently fold in vanilla and peppermint extracts without deflating the mixture.
- Transfer meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip and pipe small mounds onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 90 minutes, then turn off the oven and let cool inside for 1-2 hours.
- Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top before serving or storing in an airtight container.
