Ingredients
- 1 ¼ pounds 85% lean ground beef
- 4 brioche buns
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 slices American cheese
- Neutral vegetable oil (for cooking)
- Kosher salt & ground black pepper (to season)
Instructions
- Preheat a cast iron griddle or heavy skillet over medium-high heat for about 2 minutes. Brush lightly with vegetable oil.
- Divide the ground beef into four portions and season with kosher salt and black pepper.
- Place each portion on the hot griddle, smash into patties (about 5 inches wide), and cook undisturbed for 2 minutes until browned; flip and top with cheese. Cook for another 90 seconds.
- Meanwhile, spread softened butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast them in a separate skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble by placing cheese-topped patties on toasted bun bottoms, adding your preferred toppings, and enjoy!
